Over the years here at Coseytown there’s been one very special and hard working individual faithfully supporting my hybridization goals from day one. And she’s always known when the cut flower fit to carry her name presented itself that it would. She is my sister, and this is Coseytown Kate.
Clothed in layers of color, she reads coral mid-purple neutral in a way reminiscent of Caitlin’s Joy and her coloring remains consistent throughout the entire season. Even amongst high competition, Coseytown Kate is an overachiever that has consistently ranked right at the top of the list every season she’s been in the field. In fact, you might say that consistency is one of her superpowers.
Her stems are steely yet slender, surviving the hands of a toddler brandishing her as a magic wand and emerging on the other side unscathed. Her leaves strip easily and cleanly. She is a bucket superstar. The first time you hold her in your hands might well be the first time you really consider petal integrity as a distinct -and highly valuable- criteria. Coseytown Kate’s petals are strong making this 3” flower highly resistant to handling damage.
What more shall we say…. Ah, indeed, what about the tubers? They’re perfect - robust, sturdy, and well storing. But should we expect anything less? For not only does this one proudly raise the banner Coseytown Cut Flower Dahlia but she also carries the namesake – this is Coseytown Kate.
