It’s often been said that good things come in small packages - and the maxim surely holds true with Coseytown Keepsake. Oodles of midtone lavender petals make this petite cut flower powerhouse a lush treat for the eyes. Not content to simply look the part, Coseytown Keepsake’s abundant 2” blooms come firmly attached to long, straight stems that are easy to strip clean for cut flower processing.

Quality of blooms is maintained throughout the season too, lasting right up until frost here in the mid-Atlantic. Coseytown Keepsake’s superpowers really become apparent when she continues to unfurl petal after petal after harvesting, giving you a wide window with the flexibility to harvest stems at many different stages of maturity. LeeAnn's Hybridizer Notes - CT™ Keepsake

Growing for cut flower production:
Customers have been asking for smaller blooms for years, and I’m very excited for more florists and designers to get to work with this variety. CT Keepsake’s petals maintain a high moisture content after conditioning, making this dahlia a great candidate for wearable designs.

Her blooms hold extremely well in a cooler and maintain excellent vase life when returned to room temperature. One thing to note is when blooms continue to mature and develop after harvesting, newly emerging petals will be lighter in color, and full sun is required to develop its full lavender hue.

Finally, CT Keepsake can get away with less plant support than some of the stouter plants in your field may require, as her flowers are petite and this plant matures at 4’. You may find one layer of netting to be sufficient.

Growing as a garden plant:
Follow normal early season plant maintenance and pinch the terminal bud at 4-6 weeks. You want to have a minimum of 4 leaf sets remaining to encourage low, strong branching. CT Keepsake is definitely a cut and come again dahlia, so don’t be shy about harvesting blooms weekly. You’ll only be rewarded with even more abundant blooms!

Since CT Keepsake produces a multitude of blooms, providing adequate support will maintain the integrity of the plant even on the windiest and rainiest days. CT Keepsake can also be grown in a container, and in my container trials she dahlia grows about 3’ tall.
