Welcome to your ultimate ‘Dahlia Growing on Easy Mode’ experience. In a vast sea of orange-hued dahlias, Coseytown Koi is that rare breed that sets itself apart by exceeding in all the areas needed to be called a Coseytown Cut Flower dahlia. We’re talking about the kind of set-it and forget-it dahlia growing experience you probably didn’t think possible. Coseytown Koi will have you singing its praise all summer long when you can just show up and cut the blooms! Whenever you or your florists need deep orange and rust colored blooms, be prepared to enjoy harvesting from Coseytown Koi’s exceptionally long stems standing proudly above the leaf canopy. CT Koi provides exceptional stem length without sacrificing the integrity of the plant or future harvest potential. This dahlia isn’t just an outperformer in the field either; Coseytown Koi also features exceptional vase life - repeatedly keeping fresh looking blooms to days 7 and beyond.

LeeAnn's Hybridizer Notes - CT™ Koi

Growing for cut flower production: CT Koi is a top performer for vase life, repeatedly achieving fresh looking blooms out to days 7 and beyond in our trials. A quick cooldown in a low 50s (∘F) cooler will increase vase life by days, and as always processing and water quality are key factors for retaining optimal bloom freshness and longevity.

CT Koi has a phenomenal upright growth habit with minimal lateral branch spread, keeping these plants nice and tidy when grown in a row. Planting this variety at 12” spacing will yield a superb and exceptionally prolific cut flower crop. Supports are recommended for field planting based on the abundant number of branches and stems a mature mid-season plant can produce. The innate long internode length of the flowering lateral stems allows you to harvest only 1-2 leaf nodes for 20+" stem length. Go ahead - grab your 5-gallon buckets and fill them up!

Harvest blooms when the first 4-5 rows of petals fully open and begin to recurve back towards the stem. This bloom will continue to open after harvest. CT Koi also makes abundant and well eyed, smaller tubers that store well - and was the top performer for tubers at the farm this past year - making replanting and expanding your next year’s field a breeze.

Growing as a garden plant: CT Koi matures into a 5’ upright plant that produces a multitude of flowers on long stems. Even the secondary and tertiary blooms have excellent stem strength! Supporting the plant is necessary; staking or a tomato cage will work well. Pinching the terminal bud in the spring and at least one good deadheading session around mid-August will set you up for a stunning showcase of fall colors all the way until frost.
