Can you handle two leading ladies in your garden this summer? Coseytown Bermuda Pink doubles the drama with two opening acts in every feature! What will be your favorite… her softest Baby Pink Blush persona or her Pumpkin Spice Bronze alter ego? With Coseytown Bermuda Pink you don’t have to choose.

Coseytown Bermuda Pink first arrived on the scene in the Bermuda gardens of Alexandra Mosher after planting out seeds sourced from Coseytown Flowers. Alexandra shared tubers of her seedling back, and this stunner has been under evaluation and propagation here at Coseytown Flowers ever since. With baby pink blush blooms that quite literally match Bermuda’s famous pink sands, when her time to shine arrived her stage name was a given.

Coseytown Bermuda Pink is a dahlia that ‘sports’, meaning her color spontaneously shifts from the softest of baby pink blushes to a very brown bronze – which also happens to be two of the most popular floral event colors on the planet – together on one plant! As a sport, her proportion of pink vs. bronze blooms has been observed to vary both from plant to plant and season to season, even for the same plant. Here on the farm our plants most recently bloomed at about a 50/50 rate of baby pink blooms vs. bronze sports, while in other years the occurrence of bronze blooms was less. With main character energy x2, when this diva’s putting on the show she’s picking the set list. Because this is her world and we’re living in it - so enjoy the ride!

LeeAnn's Hybridizer Notes - CT™ Bermuda Pink

Growing for cut flower production: Can this dahlia be grown and utilized as a cut flower? Yes. We do, and its dramatic and beautiful blooms are a great reward for your efforts. Does that mean it automatically earns the distinction of being a ‘Coseytown Cut Flower Dahlia’? No. Coseytown Cut Flower dahlias are workhorses that work with you, whereas this dahlia needs to be actively managed into performing as a prime cut flower field-grown plant. With a bit of knowledge and effort though, she can reward you abundantly too.

A first pinch of the terminal bud is a must, as well as continued harvesting throughout the season to encourage longer and thinner stems. This bloom performs best with a bit of morning or afternoon shade, and during the dog days of summer I also drape 30% shade cloth over the plant. Coseytown Bermuda Pink makes numerous tubers that can tend to store a bit softer than the usual Coseytown workhorses you may be used to. To retain tuber quality and moisture, we take care to immediately process tubers within 24 hours of digging and place dry tubers in a controlled high-humidity low-temperature storage environment.

Growing as a garden plant: As a naturally stout and stocky plant, Coseytown Bermuda Pink’s growth habit makes for a perfect garden plant. She will perform best in a semi-shaded environment with afternoon shade protecting the lighter blooms. Pinching the terminal growth at 4-6 weeks encourages more branching and flowering. This plant regularly grows without any support needed in my fields, and I have trialed it in large containers too. Plant one plant/tuber per 7-gal container and add 1-2 low growing annuals for a container display with style.
