CT™ Dahlia Seed - Premium Pollinator Mix

As a hybridizer, I'm well aquainted with how dahlia parental genetics influence their children (the seeds!)... and also how amazingly diverse these children can be. Nevertheless, a long term intentional process of selection and curation is at the core of hybridization, and the genetic pool you curate will in many ways guide the range of potential prizes you'll draw.

It is in that spirit that I have curated and selected a very specific and intentional collection of open centered dahlias comprising a set of desireable and delightfully uncommon plant and bloom traits, forms and palletes to serve as the parents for our Premium Pollinator Dahlia Seed Mix.

As the parent dahlias for this mix have themselves never been released, they are shown in the product images and videos as 'seed parent examples.' I invite you then to read on, have a look, and get prepared for your own adventure in the wonderful world of growing dahlias from seed. The pure joy of discovery awaits you in your own garden this summer... heed the call!

Genuine Coseytown® dahlias are exclusively sold here in our online Dahlia Shop. Our online catalog is viewable year-round with sales starting during the first quarter of each year.

📣 Important Announcements: The Dahlia SEED Shop is closed. Dahlia seed is typically sold and shipped each year prior to opening of our tuber sales. Many of our seed mixes can sell out fast, so be sure sign up for our mailing list so you're always in the know!

❤️ We'd like to send a very big THANK YOU to our amazing Coseytown patrons for all of your love and support. YOU truly make it possible to do what we do!
With gratitude,
LeeAnn, Jeff + Team Coseytown

SEED STARTING BASICS

1) Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks prior to planting. Paper towel germination method recommended (see full guide, linked below).

  • DO NOT DIRECT SOW!
  • DO NOT germinate on unregulated heat mats! Germination at room temperature (~70 °F) without a heat mat is recommended.

2) Harden seedlings off after last frost.

3) Plant seedlings with 4-5 leaf sets in the field. Follow date recommendations for your growing zone; a general rule of thumb is when you would plant out tomatoes - after your last frost and when soil temps are above 55°F.

👉 Guide to Growing Dahlias from Seed

Seed in our Premium Pollinator Dahlia Seed Mix will delight your senses with an array of colorful open centered dahlias, all while attracting and feeding an abundance of local pollinators. This dahlia seed collection is all about the little details that work together to create something unique for your garden. Pollinator Mix seedlings tend to produce beautiful cut leaves and intricate leaf patterns, which may also feature light to deep green leaves and possibly dark stems and dark bloom centers. Mature seedling plants tend to grow between 3-4 feet and have a robust blooming habit. Blooms generally have a single layer of petals and range from 2-4" in size. Provide weeks of blooms to nurture and provide sustenance for your local pollinator populations with our Premium Pollinator Dahlia Seed Mix!

This product listing is for one packet of Coseytown® Premium Dahlia Seed mix containing 25 seeds (quantity 1 = one packet).
All seeds were harvested from our own dahlia fields.

Dahlia seedlings bloom and make tubers in one growing season. You are experiencing a treasure to be explored in your garden when you grow dahlias from seed. Dahlia seeds DO NOT grow true to the parent variety and there are endless possibilities when growing dahlias from seed. Each seed is a surprise!

In our own trials, seeds from the Premium Pollinator Mix have exhibited a tendency to germinate in about 3 to 6 days. Please note that while we select only the finest seeds for sale in each mix, dahlia germination rates are variable and germination rates for our mixes have not been determined in the lab. Following best practices will aid your success when growing dahlias from seed. See the section below entitled 'Growing From Seed' for more information (website only).
